Acting on delusion and delusional inconsequentiality: A review

Two of Europe's most influential psychopathologists at the start twentieth century (Eugen Bleuler and Karl Jaspers) pointed out fact that patients rarely act according to their delusions. This study proposes an investigation how this issue is addressed in psychopathological literature. article offers a critical review literature which focuses on influence delusional ideation behaviour. Phenomenological psychiatry has relied paradox by Jaspers emphasize disorders self-experience psychosis whereas analytical philosophy delusion focused psychological status delusion, regarded as belief, certainty, or imagination. The empirical studies conducted during past three decades – were devoted acting violent safety-seeking behaviours. These have shown these behavioural are motivated emotional outburst (anger and/or fear) rather than content. Delusional inconsequentiality can be clarified conceptual research phenomenological philosophy, even though its role processes not yet been clearly identified conceptualised. Empirical psychopathology confirms inconsequentiality, but only implicitly, highlighting affectivity (rather beliefs) actions. Given major implications better understanding phenomenon, terms clinical practices, we suggest considering promising concept could guide further contemporary psychopathology.
